My research interests are in two distinct but related areas:

Mathematics teaching and learning, and

Teacher education and professional development

In the first area my research goal is to investigate the cultural beliefs and practices that inform the teaching/learning process in mathematics classrooms.

In the second area, my research goal is twofold: (1) to identify the different aspects of the knowledge teachers need for effective teaching, and (2) to investigate ways to assist teachers in acquiring that knowledge and in introducing changes in their practices.

I am interested in investigating ways in which multimedia technology and analyses of videotaped lessons, in particular, may support teacher professional growth.
